Who I Am:
A Resilient, Resourceful Leader and a Catalyst for Growth

In today’s world, so many of us are encouraged and even pressured to become experts or specialists. I have been, and always will be, a generalist – someone who is passionate about learning and seeing the connecting threads across disciplines, experiences and communities of people. And I have built a productive and interesting career by weaving many of my life’s threads together.

  • As a museum educator, I got to do one of the things I loved: teach! And I discovered my love for weaving historical threads together in ways that honored different ages, experiences and learning styles.
  • As a program and marketing director for an alternative health center, I learned about developing and implementing successful educational programs. And I discovered the importance of mindfulness, authentic communications and empathetic listening in everyday life.
  • As a director of communications for a complex, multi-state environmental partnership, I learned about managing teams and groups and effective public engagement. And I discovered I’m a closet scientist who loves to explore the complexities of whole beings and systems.
  • And finally, as the leader of a regional nonprofit, I galvanized my experience to become an insightful servant leader and manager of people, a creator of collaborative teams, a builder of efficient systems and a guide for organizational growth. And I discovered my resilience, grit and love of shepherding people and organizations toward their goals.

About Me

I am someone who loves adventure, being active and outside, traveling and exploring my surroundings. Being in nature has always been a balm for my soul and being outside with friends makes that time all the more sweet.  So I am outside sailing, boating, biking, hiking, walking, and traveling as much as possible in spring, summer and fall. (I’m still working to appreciate the mid-atlantic winters!)

Nature and travel are also the places I’ve turned to during times of crisis. Some would say I have experienced more personal traumatic life events than any person should have to face — from single parenting and devastating personal losses to a loved one’s addiction rollercoaster to toxic work environments. I know I am not alone or unusual; many people have had it much harder. Our experiences forge us and I wouldn’t change any of mine. They’ve taught me to draw inspiration from challenges and find courage in being vulnerable amidst life’s constant changes.
